🌆 Growing Up in Seoul: The Perks of Being a Native Seoulite
Born and Raised in the Heart of Korea — Here's Why It Matters
When people ask me what it was like to grow up in Seoul, I smile. Not because it was always perfect, but because Seoul shaped me in ways no other city could. Being born and raised in Korea’s dynamic capital comes with its own set of unique advantages. Here’s what I loved — and still love — about growing up in Seoul.
1. 🏙️ Access to Everything
Seoul never sleeps — and that means 24/7 access to everything. From late-night food spots and convenience stores to libraries and study cafes, I always had what I needed, when I needed it.
2. 🚇 World-Class Public Transportation
Growing up, I didn’t need a car. Seoul’s subway and bus system is affordable, safe, and incredibly efficient. I could travel anywhere in the city (and beyond) without stress — even as a teenager.
3. 🎓 Quality Education & Learning Resources
Seoul is home to some of Korea’s best schools, academies (hagwons), and libraries. I grew up surrounded by an intense but motivating academic environment that pushed me to do my best.
4. 🌐 Global Exposure
Even as a child, I was exposed to different languages and cultures through foreign visitors, K-pop tourism, and international communities in places like Itaewon. That openness sparked my interest in the world.
5. 🌳 Urban Nature Balance
Despite being a mega-city, Seoul knows how to breathe. I spent weekends hiking in Bukhansan, biking along the Han River, or relaxing in parks like Seoul Forest — all inside the city.
6. 🛍️ Trendy and Tech-Savvy
Growing up in Seoul meant I always had early access to new tech, fashion, and food trends. Whether it was a new phone or a viral café, Seoul moves fast — and I learned to adapt just as quickly.
7. 🏮 Rich Culture and History
Palaces, museums, traditional markets, and festivals were all part of my childhood. I didn’t have to “travel” to experience Korean heritage — it was just around the corner.
8. 👨👩👧👦 Family Roots and Community
Many of my friends lived just a subway stop away. Growing up in Seoul meant my family and social connections were tightly woven into the fabric of the city.
9. 🎭 Endless Entertainment
Whether it was shopping in Myeongdong, karaoke in Hongdae, or catching an indie film in Daehakro — boredom wasn’t an option. Seoul is always alive with something to see or do.
10. 💡 A Sense of Pride
To be a Seoulite is to live at the intersection of tradition and innovation. Growing up here gave me a deep pride in my heritage — and a sense that I was always part of something bigger.
Seoul didn’t just raise me — it shaped me.
And no matter where I go, the rhythm of this city still lives in me.
Born in Seoul. Raised by Seoul. Forever a Seoulite.
